We and Third Parties Collect Some Information Automatically

Cookies are data files placed on a device when you use it to visit Our Platform.

Pixel tags are transparent graphic images, sometimes called web beacons or tracking beacons, placed on a web page or in an email indicating that the web page or email was viewed and perhaps telling your browser to get content from another server.

We may use cookies, pixel tags, mobile analytics software, and other tagging or tracking technologies that interact with your browser to increase digital functionality of Our Platform and offer responsive elements based on your and other users’ actions, e.g., to understand your pattern of use of Our Platform, for security, to facilitate navigation of Our Platform, to personalize your experience using Our Platform, for market research, and for other business purposes.

When you use Our Platform, we and third parties may automatically recognize information such as the following:

  • your device’s IP address or another unique number assigned to your device when you access Our Platform or its servers using that device (“Device Identifier”), or
  • your browser type, device’s type (i.e. computer, laptop, mobile phone, tablet, or other type of device), operating system, application version, page served, time, preceding page views, high-level location information (e.g., city or state), and user behavior, e.g., without limiting the generality of the foregoing, how long you stay on Our Platform and which links in Our Platform you click)(individually or collectively, “Usage Information”).

We or third parties may use a Device Identifier to, among other things, administer Our Platform, help diagnose problems with our servers, analyze trends, track your and other users’ web page movements, help identify you and your shopping cart, and gather demographic information that is aggregated and anonymized or de-identified.

We or third parties may use Usage Information to, among other things, keep Our Platform fresh and interesting to you and other users and conduct market research.

Some of the third parties that we use to provide services for Our Platform (e.g., analytics regarding use of Our Platform and viewing content on it and ad network) may also use their own tagging or tracking technologies on our digital properties and your device to help us run and optimize Our Platform and to serve you ads or other content personalized to your interests that they infer from your browsing on Our Platform and other websites you have visited. These third parties may collect information about your online activities over time and across Our Platform and other online properties. The use by these third parties of tagging or tracking technologies is subject to their own privacy policies, not this Privacy Policy, and we are not involved in or responsible for their activities or use of any data they collect. Please review those privacy policies often, as they may change from time to time.

We may also receive information about you from third parties.

How We Process, Store, and Use Personal Information

We collect Personal Information only as discussed above and use Personal Information we receive within or through Our Platform and family of services for purposes disclosed in this Privacy Policy or in connection with your submission to us of information.

In general, our main purposes in collection, usage, and storage of Personal Information are to further our mission by making Our Platform be more interesting to and work better for you, by staying in touch with you about our events or offerings that may interest you, by responding to your questions and requests, by conducting market research, and by complying with our license and other legal and contractual obligations. For example and without limiting the generality of those purposes, we may email you to invite you to join a new newsletter list,  participate in a survey or an event that we or our sponsor or partner, if any, sponsors, or enter a contest. We may collect your location based information to provide you with broadcast stations in your area where you can experience our programs and to tailor advertisements and offers we may send you; we may share that information with third parties for market research and data analysis. And we may use your Personal Information for other purposes disclosed to you when you provide that Personal Information or other information to us or otherwise with your consent. Our usage of your Personal Information is necessary for our legitimate interest in and purposes of staying in touch with you, administering and promoting Our Platform, and complying with our license and other legal and contractual obligations.

If you do not wish us or third parties to contact you, or if you wish to modify, verify, correct, or delete any of your Personal Information collected through Our Platform, please indicate your preference when you submit your contact information by using the opt-out links provided at the bottom of our emails and newsletters, if any, or by contacting us at Contact. We will do our best to make your requested change timely.

In accordance with our routine record keeping, we may delete certain records containing your Personal Information. We have no obligation to store any Personal Information and, without limiting the generality of our disclaimers under our Terms of Service, we disclaim any liability arising out of or related to the destruction or deletion of any Personal Information.

Aggregated and Anonymized or De-Identified Information

We may use information that has been aggregated and anonymized or de-identified to assess and improve Our Platform, including, without limiting the generality of those purposes, to enhance your user experience, to select as vendors third parties that best meet our or your needs, and to help foundation and corporate funders and other sponsors better understand our audience. We may sometimes produce data and analysis results with this aggregated and anonymized or de-identified information that help us understand our users and their interactions with Our Platform. To accomplish these objectives, we may share aggregated and anonymized or de-identified information and the resulting data and analysis with third parties, which information may incorporate or comprise but not separately state Personal Information.

Opting Out of Tagging or Tracking

If you wish to disable cookies, pixel tags, mobile analytics software, or other tagging or tracking technologies, or reduce the numbers of them that you receive from us, your browser settings may enable you to do so. Disabling, deleting, or reducing the number of cookies may change or reduce the functionality of Our Platform in certain contexts. Users who wish to opt out of Google Analytics data collection may use Google’s own browser add-on to do so.

We sometimes may work with third parties, including, without limiting the generality of those third parties, sponsors, partners, and ad network providers, that may serve ads on Our Platform based on their assessment of your personal interests and browsing history on Our Platform and elsewhere. The use by these third parties of tagging or tracking technologies is subject to their own privacy policies, not this Privacy Policy, and we are not involved in or responsible for their activities or use of any data they collect. Please review those privacy policies often, as they may change from time to time.

If you do not want to see personalized advertising, you may opt out by contacting us at Contact or visiting http://www.aboutads.info. If you opt out of personalized advertising, we may continue tracking your use of Our Platform for our analytics, operations, market research, security, and other business purposes.

Information Security and Storage

We use industry standard physical, digital, and training-based security measures to protect user information against theft and misuse. All Our Platform websites are protected by Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security features. Our Platform’s collection and handling of payment information is PCI-compliant.

We May Share Information in Limited Circumstances

With Vendors

We may engage third parties to help us develop, operate, and improve Our Platform, including, without limiting the generality of those activities, service providers that host or operate Our Platform, analyze data, process transactions and payments, fulfill orders or provide customer service, advertisers, ad network providers, sponsors, partners,  or other third parties that participate in or administer our promotions, contests, sweepstakes, or surveys or provide marketing or promotional assistance and “powered by” partners or partners in co-branded sites, if any.

We also may use, or share with our advertisers, ad network providers, sponsors, partners, or other third parties your Personal Information in connection with marketing, promotional, and other offers, product information, and the respective third parties’ analytics and market research.

Those third parties receive Personal Information only as reasonably necessary to complete services for us and are contractually bound to maintain confidentiality of information and prohibited from using or disclosing Personal Information without permission from us. In certain instances, we may agree to allow a vendor to use aggregated data about activity on Our Platform for general improvement or benchmarking purposes but only if this data is anonymized or de-identified so that none of our users can be identified from it as individuals.

As stated above, the use by these third parties of tagging or tracking technologies is subject to their own privacy policies, not this Privacy Policy, and we are not involved in or responsible for their activities or use of any data they collect. Please review those privacy policies often, as they may change from time to time.

For Mailing Lists

It is our policy not to sell or exchange email or mailing, billing, residence, or shipping addresses or telephone numbers with any other company or organization. Business Transfers

We may share your Personal Information with other persons primarily for business and operational purposes. If any of us or those other persons is involved in a bankruptcy, merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets (including, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, a foreclosure upon assets constituting collateral for a loan), your Personal Information and other information may be sold or transferred as part of that transaction.

As Required By Law

If we determine on a good faith basis that we are required by law (e.g., without limiting the generality of that requirement, pursuant to any subpoena or order, judgment, or decree of any judicial or other governmental agency or authority) to share your Personal Information or other information, we will endeavor to share it only to the extent we determine is reasonably necessary to comply with that requirement.

Other Sites and Services

In some cases, Our Platform may also include embedded tools or widgets that are provided and controlled by third parties or that permit you to submit information to third parties. These websites, applications, services, tools, and widgets, and any websites of third parties that you reach from links on Our Platform, are governed by the privacy policies and terms of service of the respective third parties, not this Privacy Policy nor our Terms of Service, and we are not involved in nor responsible for their activities nor use of any data they collect. Please review those privacy policies and terms of service often, as they may change from time to time.

Newsletters, Surveys, Contests, and Other User Engagement

From time to time, we may offer various opportunities for you to interact with us, in particular, by signing up for a newsletter, responding to a survey, entering a contest through Our Platform, or sending us your writings, audio files, photographs, or video files in response to specific crowdsourcing requests. These opportunities may involve rules governing your participation in the respective contests or other activities that may give us additional rights to use entries or submissions. If there is any conflict or inconsistency between those rules and this Privacy Policy or our Terms of Service, those rules will govern and take precedence over this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.

If you become aware that your child or ward under that legal age of majority has provided us with information without your consent, please contact us; at your request, or, if we determine that a user is under that legal age of majority, we will not use and will work to delete that child’s Personal Information from our files within a reasonable time unless and until that child’s parent or guardian consents to our maintaining and using that Personal Information.

See our Terms of Service–International Use and U.S.A. Export Controls.

Access to Your Information

Because we value the longevity of our relationships with our users, we generally retain user information in our database. If you would like to access, transfer, review, or correct your Personal Information in our database or to request that it be removed, deleted, or restricted in use, please contact us at Contact. Depending on your location or country of residence or citizenship, you may have a legal right to make these requests and to contact supervisory authorities if you are not satisfied with our response.

It may not always be possible to remove or delete completely all your information from our databases without some residual data. We also will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our license, legal, and contractual obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements to which we are a party or by which we are bound or benefit, and fulfill our administrative or security needs or requirements.

Changes to Privacy Policy

We may, in our sole, absolute, and irrefutable discretion, modify, add to, or delete portions of this Privacy Policy at any time by our posting an updated Privacy Policy. Any modifications, additions, or deletions (“changes”) to this Privacy Policy will become effective immediately upon that posting without any other notice to users of Our Platform and will take effect only prospectively from the dates of the respective changes. We may but shall have no obligation to notify persons on our mailing list, if any, of changes by email as well. No changes will become effective without our prior agreement to those changes, evidenced by our posting them on Our Platform. We will not post updates or send email notification regarding changes to the list of third parties, which we may update from time to time.

This Privacy Policy, as it may be updated by any changes, is referenced throughout this Privacy Policy as “this Privacy Policy.”

Please review this Privacy Policy often, as it may be affected by changes. By your using Our Platform, you agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service and that your continued use of Our Platform following our posting of any changes to either of those documents constitutes your irrefutable consent to those changes.
